Federschwert – (Fechtfeder) special sword for training and fencing practice known from historical documents since the XV century. It is a variation of the longsword with thin flexible blade, which historically wasn’t sharpen and ends with a round loop. Such construction let train and sparring armorless without being afraid of getting a serious injury even in the Middle Ages.
Modern federschwerts are different from historical artifacts with increased weight and,stiffness and, in most cases with a loop on the blade’s tip for better safety at thrust.
In modern HEMA community is very popular studying of fencing traditions of Talhoffer, Meyer… with the federschwerts.
In modern HEMA tournament fencing longsword is an analogue of the Olympic epee – the most popular type of weapon, with a biggest involvement and widespread on different historical fencing tournaments.
Federchvert Classic is a stylization of the most simple modern tournament longsword for tournaments and trainings created in association with Ukrainian HEMA by club GDF.
